Daylilies (properly Hemerocallis) are almost too good to be true. They are colorful, vigorous, hardy, and absolutely carefree, prospering in practically any situation that offers decent drainage and half a day of sun. While individual flowers last only a day, established plants produce many flower spikes, each of which bears up to a dozen buds, so the display is long and lusty.
